The coating, preceded by suitable preparation of the application surfaces, has the primary purpose of protecting steel structures from corrosion, ensuring their full functionality, stability and durability with consequent reduction in maintenance costs.
Before applying coating products, it is necessary to adequately prepare the application surface, removing all traces of impurities such as, for example, rust, calamine, paint residues and oily residues. The result is obtained by subjecting the surfaces to mechanical, chemical and degreasing treatments.
The most commonly used treatments are mechanical:
- Base layer or primer with leveling / sealing functions of the support, of adhesion between support and intermediate and of corrosion protection.
- Intermediate layer with the function of filler and further leveling of the base layer.
- Surface layer or enamel which, in addition to an aesthetic function, must meet the mechanical or chemical resistance requirements needed by the nature and use of the substrate.
The coating products are applied using brushes, rollers, spray and airless systems, cold or hot.
